Mad about Milk
I need to stop reading the news. Yes, reading - I got rid of cable tv years ago & get my news from multiple web sources. Whatever. I gotta take a news vacation.
I made the mistake of reading a translation of the Pope's controversial speech. I'm not going into it, but it made my blood pressure rise.
Then I stumbled across a video (damn you, YouTube!) about some Fox TV news reporters who got fired because they wouldn't lie. They were working on a story on milk & the bovine growth hormone. The Florida courts backed up FOX News & said it was okay for the network to LIE...about what goes into approx. 25% of America's milk supply. Whatever. You can watch the video for the gory details. I've switched to organic milk. I'm voting with my dollars. I don't care if it's a little more expensive, I'm not putting freakin' cow hormones into my body on purpose. Doesn't that seem, oh, a little STUPID?!!
So no more news. For at least a week. I'm getting too irritated & I've got other stuff to do. You know, the kind of stuff I can actually have some impact on. Like words on the screen/page, windows cleaned, edits done, dishes washed, letters written...you get the idea.

I've had the kids on organic milk for years. Precocious puberty is increasingly common in this country. There's no proof that points to all the hormones in dairy and meat products as the cause. Typically, I look for that before I make decisions, but since there's no downside to drinking organically cultivated milk and considering how much milk a kid drinks, I don't want to take the chance, if I don't have to.
Yeah, I totally understand, the news media gets on my nerves at times too.
and not to mention the antibiotics in livestock. i lived on a farm for 20 years. makes you not want to eat or drink another thing.
just watched the video.
the root of all evil.
and sadly the only lessons people seem to learn from these things is how to better cover their shit.
It's not the covering up that bugs me as much as the Florida court ruling that IT'S OKAY FOR THE NEWS TO LIE. I can't help it. it pisses me off. and the average American won't even know about this crap. very, very depressing & anger inducing.
Oh man. Thanks for sharing this. I'm switching to organic tomorrow.
Milk has also been linked to autism. It isn't necessarily what causes autism, certainly not in all cases, but contributes to escalation of the symptoms. There have been cases where young children taken off of milk have stopped regressing, which is what happens in early stage autism - a child develops normally for the first few years and then stops speaking, etc.
But the whole lying thing - wow. Well, me and journalism ethics. Wait 'til you read SC...
Damn!
I'd better just stop with that.
I just watched the video. This does nothing but add to my belief that the media, (not all) feeds us the crap that they want us to believe. It burns my ass, but what can we do. Nothing but turn the TV or radio off. Sorry state of affairs.

Milk. Autism.
It's expensive, but we have a rule in our house - the only beef, milk, fruits, and most veggies that come home are organic ones.
(of course, when I'm sick and the hubs does the shopping, he tries to sneak in a Twinkie or canned Vienna Sausages - gag! I toss them out when I find them).
Oh, and here's an interesting link:

We switched from 'normal' milk a while back. It started to taste like water so I knew something was wrong! Yup, organic is a little more expensive but it tastes like it did when we were kids.
:o)
Not a lot of milk gets drunk in our house. Drank? Is the milk drunk? On what? Beer? I are a riter.
Anyway, we don't drink much milk. I buy from an organic dairy when I do, and go for their lactose free variant.
Like you, angie, I think I'm more appalled by the court ruling than the rest of it. Yet somehow I'm not surprised. I can't pretend to understand law well enough to know if there's a reasonable obligation of truthfulness in the news media. I mean, what can we do, aside from not watching? Sue Fox for lying as a counter punch?
Grrr. I do news embargoes fairly often, actually. I trust so few of the normal news sources anymore that there's precious little I believe, even when it seems obviously factual.
"John Doe died when his car struck a tree and exploded."
"Did he really?" I think. "Or do they just want me to think he died?"
If they had their way, we'd all be brain dead.
